Only in God

Description

Only in God is a solo album by the American singer and songwriter Barbara Garneau of The Spirit Seekers fame, independently released on RPC (Record Publications Company) in 1978. The album was engineered by David Bush and Randall Bashta and was custom pressed by Record Publications Company in Camden, New Jersey.

Featuring Beth and Barbara Garneau on guitars, Cliff Muldoon on lead guitar, as well as Randall Bashta on drums. Background vocals provided by Beth and Debbie Garneau. Includes covers of songs written by Bill & Gloria Gaither (“I Lost It All”), Joe Wise (“Song of Blessing”), and John Foley (“Who Has Known” and “Only in God”), among others.

Simple pleasant homemade guitar-and-voice sounds from young female singer. Often a stirring moody presence to her music, crossing over in solemn haunting loner realms on tracks like «Who Has Known» and «Father, Mercy» (both of which are St. Louis Jesuits songs). Other standouts include covers of Carey Landry («Isaiah 49»), Joe Wise («Song Of Blessing») and a couple more St. Louis Jesuits songs («I Lift Up My Soul», the title track). Also one song written by Barbara («John 17»). Very pretty voice, with touching self-harmony that melts my heart. Barbara’s guitar is joined by two other guitarists, plus occasional low-key drums. She’s from Leominster, Massachusetts. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
