Missa Disco

Description

The self-titled album by the disco project Missa Disco – composed by Henri-Michel Raschle – was released on Ariola in 1979. The album was recorded by Didier Périer at Le Nouveau Studio in Paris, France; and at Arco Studio in Munich, Germany; with Pepe Ederer producing. Mixed at Le Nouveau Studio. arranged by Georges Lartigau.

What the Electric Prunes did in the ‘60s with psychedelic rock on Mass In F Minor, composer Henri-Michel Raschle did in the ‘70s with disco music on Missa Disco. Yep, that’s right – The Disco Mass. I suppose it was inevitable. And by George it’s the real thing too, making serious competition for that Sphinx record (you know, the other Christian disco album). The project throbs along in minor-key realms from start to finish, with solemn, sometimes Gregorian-esque male and female choral harmonies heading the charge on «Kyrie», «Gloria», «Credo», «Sanctus», etc. – you know the routine by now. As for the rest of the ingredients – the constant mechanical beat, the pumping bass, horns, synthesizers, organ, electric guitar – they’re all in here, and with major-label production treatment. Give it a whirl – after all, it’s not every day you can worship the Lord, shake your booty and brush up on your Latin all at the same time. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
