Just What You’re Looking For is a multi-artist compilation released on DaySpring Records in 1986, a division of Word.

The title track which opens this fine compilation gives you the opportunity to meet the DaySpring artists individually, but it’s not nearly as strong a selection as those taken from the performers’ separate LPs. Dallas Holm, probably the elder statesman of this crop of mostly younger folks, is in fine voice on «Prayer Warriors», a cut from his spendid ‘Change the World’ album. Teri DeSario chimes in with «Tapestry», one of the most accessible tracks from her recent release, and celebrates the place each of us has in the Lord’s grand design. Wayne Watson tells us about the «Peace that Passes Understanding» from his ‘Giants in the Land‘ LP, and rocker Kenny Marks contributes one of the highlights from ‘Attitude‘, «Soul Reviver».

Producer/keyboardist Keith Thomas presents «Road to Paradise» from an earlier LP and promises ‘Instrumental Appetite II’. Mike Warnke tells us the story of Adam and Eve through the eyes and voice of his “Valley Girl”-influenced teenage daughter on «Stuff Happens». Also included are Billy Crockett with the delicate acoustic track «Portrait of Love», some slick R&B/gospel by The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, a soulful praise ballad by Morris Chapman, and former Imperial Paul Smith’s «So Good to Know», his ‘Live and Learn‘ solo LP.

Sampler albums often induce you to purchase the discs they’re compiled from by including the mellower tracks by an artist – tracks that aren’t necessarily representative of the album they’re culled from. That is not the case with ‘Just What You’re Looking For’. Indeed, its special price and super package make it a terrific buy. [Bruce A. Brown, CCM, May 1986]
