Description
…Things We Deeply Feel is the fourth studio album by the American pop trio The Archers, released on Light Records in 1975. The album was recorded by Jerry Barnes at Western Recorders in Hollywood, California; with Bill Cole producing. Strings and brass were arranged by Clark Gassman (who also played Moog synthesizer). Includes a cover of “Lord, You’ve Been Good To Me”, a song written by Andraé Crouch and originally recorded on his 1972-album Just Andraé.
The Archers (Nancye Short, Steve Archer, and Tim Archer) are backed by session players like David Paich on keyboards; Clark Gassman on Moog synthesizer; Harold Hensley on electric fiddle; Red Rhodes on steel guitar; Ben Benay, Dan Ferguson, Jay Graydon, and Lee Ritenour on guitars; Leland Sklar on bass; Ed Greene and Hal Blaine on drums; and Alan Estes on percussion.
This is one of those albums that is so easy to digest that it’s quite likely you’ll fall in love with it. The Archers is one of those groups that appeal to all ages, from kids to older folks, with their youthful image. Musically, every cut fits right in with what they call the “Archer Sound.”
Producer Bill Cole demonstrates the benefits of his past experience with contemporary albums quite well, bringing in good studio musicians, David Paich, Clark Gassman, Jay Graydon, Hal Blaine and Leland Sklar who stand out. The arrangements are beautiful and artfully simple.
Composers of the songs include the Archer’s own Billy Masters (guitar) and Nancye Short, Gary Paxton (of «Monster Mash» fame), Andraé Crouch, etc. The variation in tempo of the individual songs is pleasant, ranging from the quiet «Brand New Day» to the rocking «I’m With Jesus». The fine voice of Steve Archer shines all through the album, though no one involved should be slighted. Best cuts: «Giver of Life», «Sit Yourself Down», «It Wouldn’t Be Enough», «I’m With Jesus», «Brand New Day» and «If You Can’t Believe In Love».
The simplicity of the art work on the cover is a nice improvement over the previous two albums. Hummable tunes and expressive lyrics are the outstanding features in an album so well titled. [Chuck Brown, Harmony, Vol. 1, No. 6, March/April 1976]
