Description
God With Us, sub-titled A Celebration of Christmas Carols & Classics, is a multi-artist Christmas compilation released on Sparrow Records in 1997, distributed by Chordant Distribution Group in the US. It is a sequel to the compilation album Emmanuel: A Musical Celebration of the Life of Christ.
A lot of top American CCM talent (Anointed, Steven Curtis Chapman, Clay Crosse, Out Of The Grey, Ray Boltz, etc) doing versions of THOSE songs («Silent Night», «Angels We Have Heard On High», «The First Noel»). Yep, it’s formulaic and it’s not helped by the fact that some creaking oldies from previous Christmas projects have bee slipped in alongside the new recordings. Also, I’m not sure that the people who enjoy Steve Green are also into Out Of The Grey. But I quibble. If you want classily sung and produced carols by a heap of Nashville’s finest this set may be for you. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, December 1999]
