Truth is Fallen

Description

Truth is Fallen is an album featuring a cantata by the American jazz pianist and composer Dave Brubeck (December 6, 1920 – December 5, 2012), released on Atlantic Records in 1972. Featuring The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra conducted by Erich Kunzel, the St. John’s Assembly, the rock group New Heavenly Blue, the soprano Charlene Peterson, as well as Dave Brubeck on piano. Directed by Gordon Franklin.

The work was premiered on May 1, 1971 at the Midland Center for the Arts (Michigan) by the Midland Symphony, Midland Music Society Chorale, New Heavenly Blue Rock Band, and Charlene Peterson, soprano, conducted by Donald Th. Jaager.

Jazz pianist Dave Brubeck of «Take Five» fame composed this very modern and innovative cantata that blends elements of avant garde, classical, rock and of course jazz. Participants include the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, soprano Charlene Peterson, rock outfit New Heavenly Blue, and Brubeck on piano. Often a very dissonant harsh tone that conjures up images of Carmina Burana and the 2001 soundtrack. The rock angle is pretty intense when it surfaces. Draws inspiration from passages in Isaiah and Jeremiah. Can be a difficult listening experience but it certainly is creative. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
