Description

Common Creed is the fourth studio album by the American singer, songwriter, and guitarist Wes King, released on Reunion Records in 1995. Manufactured by Reunion Records and distributed by both Word Distribution and BMG Distribution. The album was recorded and mixed Ronnie Brookshire with Phil Naish producing.

The third release in Wes King’s catalog is a great effort packed with songs that show off his writing, performance and vocal abilities. Heading the production helm is Phil Naish who masterfully produces King’s back to basics approach on this album.

A call to hope, love and glory is the thread that ties the latest effort by Wes King together. The title cut is a well rounded song complete with just the right balance of pop and acoustic sensibilities surrounded with straight forward lyrics. This song examines the need to get back to the basics of God’s word and that His word is a common creed that we all should stand by. As in most of King’s works, many of the songs are personal statement of faith as seen in the song «Life is Precious».

Keeping time with his last effort, The Robe, King continues to develop his writing talents throughout this album in the strong ballads «The Love of Christ» and «Fisher of Men». He also demonstrates his playing abilities in the emotional «Salt of the Earth», but he’s not afraid to show his stuff in a pop/rock tune like «Mercy».

Although this album lacks more memorable tunes like «The Robe» and «I Believe», this is a strong effort by King. Demonstrating his love for the Lord and offering up thought provoking lyrics that seem to be very personal makes this album worth giving a try. [Mark Adkison, CCM, June 1995]
