Destiny

Description

Destiny is an album by the American singer and songwriter Vernessa Mitchell, released on Benson Music Group in 1992. Also manufactured and distributed by A&M Records. The album was produced, arranged, and mixed by Rahni Song.

This album is so hot it sizzles! It’s Vernessa’s fourth, a thoroughbred straining at the leash in the Benson stable; the 70s saw her chart topping high energy for Motown. Vernessa’s voice is now a dedicated instrument soaring into ecstacy or funkily ground on a neat set of sacred songs, complemented by the ultra smooth BVs, tricky overdubs and state of the art production of Rahni Song. It’s an album for the church, addressing such topics as hypocrisy in «Be For Real» (reminiscent of Lavine Hudson) and rekindling «First Love». «Changes» exhorts the believer to go out into the world. The title track is inspirational R&B with a powerful bassline. While stylistically the anthemic «Reap» shows traces of Prince and Hammer. [Fran James, Cross Rhythms, October 1992]
