Description
Bottom of the Stairs is the debut album by the American power-pop band Urban Edge, later known as Two Pound Planet, independently released on Gravity Records in 1987 as a cassette-only effort. (Re-issued by Lo-Fidelity Records in December 2021.) The album was produced and engineered by the gang at Sound Lab of Greensboro, North Carolina; with Noel Hunter co-producing.
Urban Edge is Jason Buss on keyboards and voice, Tom Shaw on guitars and voice, Jerry Chapman on bass and vocals, and Jerry Finley on drums and voices.
For those that don’t know, Urban Edge changed names to Two Pound Planet and released the critically acclaimed Songs From the Hydrogen Jukebox album. All of 2PP’s material was recently re-issued on CD and vinyl, so I was wondering if we would see all of this material released. Unfortunately, only 4 songs from this tape were on the 2PP re-issue. However, the label did make some limited edition cassette re-issues of this tape available on BandCamp, so of course I had to grab one. If you are a fan of 2PP, then you will love this tape. Several songs here, like «Tuesday’s Garden» and «On Your Feet (or on Your Knees)», were re-recorded by 2PP. The sound is generally within the alternative rock / power pop realm, but the band was influenced by many 60s and 70s bands as well. You can listen on BandCamp and purchase if you like.
