Tribe Of Dan – Shook Up Shook Up

Description

Shook Up Shook Up is the full-length debut album by the British alternative rock band Tribe of Dan, independently released in the UK on Mister M Records in 1991 (also released in Germany by Pila Music). Re-issued by Blonde Vinyl Records in the US the following year, featuring new cover artwork. The album was recorded by Andy Crawley and Andy & Joy Clark at Mark 1 Audio in Rushden and Rockingdown Studio in Northampton, England; with Dan Donovan and Andy Crawley producing. Mixed by Dan Donovan and Andy Crawley at Mark 1 Audio and Rockingdown Studio. All songs written by Dan Donovan except track 10 and 12 co-written by Byworth and Currie, respectively.

Featuring Dan Donovan on lead vocals and guitar, Bobby Coates on bass and backing vocals, and Simon Marton on drums and backing vocals.

Though I’d not call myself a full flown Moosketeer, clearly I’ve yet to earn my antlers, I do enjoy Dan Dona-van’s particular brand of grungey, thrashing, hit-you-in-the-ribcage rock and Bobby Coates (bass) and Simon Marton (drums) keep the heat full up as Dan flays away at recycled riffs. An indie chart hit? Who knows, stranger things have happened and certainly Dan has more between the ears than many sweating it out in the pubs and clubs. Standouts for me are the delidously catchy title track and the hard-hitting «I Just Want» (“I don’t want no man made religion/ I don’t like his deals/ I don’t want no man made decision/ I just want what’s real.”) Bug your music merchant till they get you a copy. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, July 1992]
