Jumping in the House of God

Description

Jumping in the House of God is an album project by (members of) the British electronic dance music combo The World Wide Message Tribe (according to the cover it is done by ‘Various Artists’, but none is actually specified), independently released in the UK on Movation in 1995. Also released (featuring a different tracklist) on Warner Alliance in the US, a division of Warner Bros. Records, a Time Warner Company. The album was produced and mixed by Zarc Porter at Perfect Music Studios in Manchester, England.

This first release from the new Movation dance label is the promised worship blast from Zarc Porter’s Perfect Music crew, and a veritable slamdunk of an album it is too. Concerned that Scott Blackwell’s ‘Nitro Praise‘ was essentially a selection of American worship favourites and anxious to equip Manchester’s growing series of dance-based Planet Life services with some serious musical backing, the crew have really done the business with this one. Established worship songs such as «Hosanna», «Be Still», «All Heaven Declares» and «Come On And Celebrate» are all given the full dancefloor treatment and yet still retain enough of their original shape as to be highly recognisable and distinctly worshipful. Alongside these are two new worship songs penned by The World Wide Message Tribe guys, and one astonishing rip-up called «Slam (Give God The Glory)» which needs no further explanation! It’s not a Tribe album, even though Sani, Mark Pennells, Elaine Hanley and The Heavyfoot all take turns with the singing (well, The Heavyfoot doesn’t exactly sing, but you know what I mean). Other vocalists are used and it’s hoped that this is the first of a series, gradually employing a wider range of singers and performers, and all intended to keep our worship fresh and up-to-the-minute. In all, there’s 18 tracks, the final seven being instrumental versions for your happenin’ congregation to yell over. Pump up the church bass bins and Jump in the House of God! [Karl Allison, Cross Rhythms, April 1995]
