The Vespers – Tell Your Mama

Description

Tell Your Mama is the debut album by the American indie-folk quartet The Vespers, released on Black Suit Records in March 2010. The album was produced by the band.

They call their brand of roots music indie-cana. It’s a mixture of indie sensibilities and Americana styles and this four piece band hail from Nashville. The Vespers are two sets of siblings; the Cryar sisters and the Jones brothers. The boys make up a solid rhythms section whilst the girls weave together the most beautiful and intricate harmonies and write the lion’s share of the songs. The girls are the daughters of ’80s Christian music artist Morgan Cryar who was no slouch when it came to songwriting so obviously it’s in the genes. What you have here is 13 perfectly crafted rootsy songs that see the group establishing their own unique style and there’s plenty here to jump up and down and get excited about. I totally love the album’s title track with its gorgeous atmosphere and understated spirituality and it seems that this song sums up everything that is great about this band. Check out the lovely «Cottonfield» or the quirky «Happy Lessons» and the intense «Pick A Fight» and find yourself falling in love with The Vespers. On the strength of this debut, they deserve to massively break out and even on this side of the pond I can imagine Bob Harris falling in love with their charms.
