I Can’t Get Over It is a 33⅓ RPM 12-inch vinyl single by the American rock band The Seventy Sevens, released on Island Records in 1987, licensed from Exit Records and distributed by Atlantic Recording Corporation (catalogue number PR 1022). The track was taken from the band’s self-titled album released by Exit Records in 1987, manufactured by Island Records and distributed by Atco Records in the US, a division of Atlantic Recording Corporation. (Side B features the album version of the song while Side A features an edited, slightly shorter version.) The album was recorded by Robert Musso with Steve Griffith and Daryl Zachman at Exit in Sacramento, California; during autumn 1986, with Musso producing. Mixed by Musso assisted by Peter Sturge at Quadrasonic in New York. The song was written by Michael Roe and David Leonhardt.

“I Can’t Get Over It” was also included on Island Records’ 1987 promo CD, entitled Sampler #1, squeezed in between tracks by British mainstream outfits The Comsat Angels and Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

An acoustic version of the song was later recorded by 77s front man Michael Roe and Michael Pritzl of The Violet Burning fame, independently released in December 2021 as a digital single.

There are a variety of styles and influences on the debut album from this Northern California four-piece band too numerous to categorize. We’ve been living with the 77’s for several weeks and can honestly admit, “I Can’t Get Over It” simply feels too damn good to miss! The 77’s make snappy, pop rock with a 60’s-meets-80’s fun feeling.
