Description
The self-titled, sole album by the British Europop/dance group Storm was released on Survivor Records in 1998. The album was mixed by Zarc Porter of The World Wide Message Tribe fame at Perfect Music Studios in Manchester, England; with Matt Redman producing. Guitars played by Craig Borlase and engineered by Matt Weeks. Programmed by Andrew Philip (tracks 2 and 9), Mark Edwards (tracks 4 and 10), Matt Wanstall, and Zarc Porter.
Storm features Becki Bell, Beth Redman, Claire Smith, Glenn Ross, and Lucy Britten (later of V*Enna and BlushUK fame).
A delicious, bubbly, effervescent concoction, produced by Matt Redman, mixed by Zarc Porter and featuring more Top 40 influences than a chain of Our Prices, this is another engaging example of how the British Church’s move to make songs of faith relevant to today’s youth is paying off. There are four-on-the-floor stompers, slinky pieces of R&B and heaps more while in Beth Vickers (sorry, I’ll say that again, Beth Redman) the group have a lead singer who can come on the soul diva one song and portray a pure, pop innocence the next. Also effective are Glen Ross’s punchy raps – the gifted lad was underused at Refresh – while the songs, largely written by Beth and Matt, have hooks a plenty. With the full force of Soul Survivor behind them, clearly Storm are going to do some serious business for the King in the months ahead. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, December 1998]
