No One Loves Me Like You

Description

No One Loves Me Like You is the sophomore solo album by the British singer Sheila Walsh, released in 1982 on the Swedish gospel label Leon Music and on Kingsway Music in the UK. The album was recorded by Lennart Karlsmyr at KMH Studios in Stockholm, Sweden (where ABBA recorded parts of their first album, Ring Ring); and was produced and arranged by Lennart Sjöholm of New Creation fame. Featuring Swedish studio mafia of the day (including various musicians used by ABBA) as well as the symfonic orchestra of Sweden’s national public radio broadcaster, Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester. It’s a soft rock collection of ballads and pop songs written by a handfull of British Christian songwriters of the day; Chris Eaton, Paul Field, Dave Cooke, Graham Kendrick, and John Daniels.

‘No One Loves Me Like You’ is an album that I have wanted to record for some time. It is not a follow-up to my first album ‘Future Eyes‘ but rather a collection of love songs expressing something of the joy and pain involved in following Christ. Each one means a lot to me, I hope they will to you. – Love, Sheila. [Note on the back of the UK album sleeve]

Cover girl in the May 1982 issue of Buzz, Sheila Walsh, whose second album ‘No One Loves Me Like You’ was new in the shops (described by the Buzz reviewer as “Sheila Walsh for those who like the voice but can’t take the power…”). An in-depth article (complete with a couple of cheesy photos of the lass taken in the 70s) traced her life and career, including how she came to terms with the death of her father when she was five and how originally she’d wanted to be an opera singer. The second album, described by Sheila as not a follow-up to her debut album, ‘Future Eyes‘, had been released on Kingsway Records, following the collapse of the much-trumpeted merger of Kingsway with Chapel Lane. Meanwhile, in the States, ‘Future Eyes’ was getting the hard push by Sparrow Records: big block letters headline of one ad in CCM Magazine – “SHEILA ROCKS!”
