Richard Souther – Heirborne

Although Israeli, Irish and British influences pass through this synthesizer player’s first Meadowlark album, Richard Souther calls Los Angels both his home town and his home base.

“Off-base” is the response of critics to his emotional playing of this instrument. Those who summarily dismiss synthesizers as too intrinsically mechanical just haven’t heard his session work for artists as diverse as Phil Keaggy and Debby Boone.

“I prefer the synthesizer over other instruments because of its expressiveness,” he knowingly explains. “For Heirborne, I used twenty of them.”

“This is the kind of music I play for my own enjoyment,” Souther sums up. “But I also know it can cross barriers – become the kind othat listeners with varying initial preferences can relate to.”
