Prophecy Of PANIC – Manic Panic

Description

Manic Panic is the debut album by the American techno band Prophecy of P.A.N.I.C. (Brian Scroggins and Daniel Somboonsiri), released on N•Soul Records in 1994, distributed in the US by Diamante Music Group.

Gabba, in case you didn’t read the Spirits On The Dance Floor article in CR24, is a new, even faster form of techno. This album consists of gabba and techno. Now before you skip over to the next review, let me assure you that you could end up loving it to bits. Prophecy Of P.A.N.I.C. (nice name) are Daniel Somboonsiri and Brian Scroggins, and sound like a cross between the Raving Loonatics and the Prodigal Sons on 78 RPM in some places. And with a dash of Scott Blackwell production thrown in for good measure, the result is an album which has that distinct atmosphere only found within sanctified dance music, and the ‘instant uplift’ is pretty good too! All the songs seem somewhat effortless, even the instrumental tracks ooze quality and style. The lyrical messages too, are typically simple but varied and effective, from the ecstatic declarations on «Jesus Christ Is Lord» to the track derived from Psalm 139:23-24, «Everlasting», to the simple ambience of «Meditations». In ‘Manic Panic’ you will find that there is lots of enjoyment for young and old alike (well for those who appreciate music at 160 beats per minute anyway!). [Dave Drodge, Cross Rhythms, April 1995]
