Friends is a 7-inch vinyl single by the American singer, songwriter, and keyboardist Michael W. Smith, released on Reunion Records in January 1988 (catalogue number 9010026014-DJ). The live track was taken from his full-length album The Live Set released on Reunion Records the previous year with Michael W. Smith producing. The song was co-written by Michael W. Smith and his wife Deborah D. Smith.
“Friends” was originally recorded on Michael W. Smith full-length debut album Michael W. Smith Project released in 1983. A new version of the song, entitled “Friends (1992 version)”, was included on the compilation album The First Decade 1983 – 1993. The song was as well recorded by Stryper on the multi-artist tribute album Ultimate Music Makeover: The Songs of Michael W. Smith released on Rocketown Records in 2005.
