Song in the Air is a compilation album by the American power rock trio Glass Harp featuring guitarist Phil Keaggy, released on StarSong Records in 1977. The tracks, recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York and produced by Lewis Merenstein, originally appeared on the three albums released by Glass Harp on Decca Records between 1970 and 1972.
The Star Song album compiles several of the Keaggy compositions from the three Decca albums and is a good representation of the “Jesus music” side of Glass Harp. Includes one song from Glass Harp, three from Synergy and all of side two from It Makes Me Glad (five songs). Splendid cover art by George Werth. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
Back in the very early seventies – there was a rock group called Glass Harp. Nothing too unusual about that, except that its lead guitarist was Phil Keaggy, a new Christian. They were a three man group, but unlike the other “power trios” of the day, they were more melodic and innovative, with Keaggy’s incredible guitar work sparkling above a solid and creative rhythm foundation. The songs range from mellow to fairly hard rock, so there’s something for all Keaggy lovers.
Listening to this album it’s interesting to see the growth and development of a Christian artist from the early «Can You See Me?» (a little hazy musically and lyrically) to «Song in the Air», which sounds like it could have been lifted from the What A Day album.
Star Song has put together a very pleasing package in this collection of songs, all taken from the three now out-of-print Glass Harp albums.
