Pat Terry

Description

The self-titled debut album by the American singer and songwriter Pat Terry of The Pat Terry Group fame was self-released in 1974. The album was produced by Pat Terry, Randy Bugg and Sonny Lallerstedt. The album track “See It Now” was covered by Dove on their second album (an effort featuring Sonny Lallerstedt of the Pat Terry Group on lead guitar) while “Same Sweet Song” was covered by Ron Moore on his 1975 album, Silence is Music.

Prior to being called The Pat Terry Group, the trio of Randy Bugg, Sonny Lallerstedt, and Pat Terry produced this custom effort which I’m told was only sold at concerts. As can be expected their sound is more stripped back here: acoustic folk rock with mild electric, but maintaining a full band sound. Some of the songs on this LP would be re-done on later albums. I find the versions contained here to be superior. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that this is their best album. The guitars complement each other perfectly here giving a pleasant acoustic jangle. Cover art is a composite of several children’s drawings. [Ken Scott, The Archivist]
