Flying

Description

Flying is the debut album by the American singer and songwriter Pam Mark Hall (on this album credited Pam Mark), released on Aslan in 1975, a division of Discovery Art Guild, Palo Alto, California. The album was recorded by Paul Weaver, Larry James, and Ron Miles at Spectrum Productions’ studio with Dan Collins producing. Arranged by Collins and Pam Mark. All songs written by Pam Mark. “This record is a product of Discovery Art Guild, a division of Discovery Fundation, dedicated to the furtherance of quality art as an expression of Biblical Truth.” [note featured on the lyric sheet]

Another one of Jesus music’s versatile femme folkies. On this her debut album, Pam handles song-writing, vocals, guitar, piano, synthesizer, and flute. Her stirring voice often reveals a touch of Joni Mitchell. Flying has an appealing simply-arranged folky soft rock sound, primarily acoustic guitar augmented by gentle keyboard backing. Includes assistance from John Fischer (guitar, background vocals) and Mark Spoelstra (12-string guitar), plus others on electric guitar, bass, percussion and Fender Rhodes. Beautiful tranquil stuff: the graceful title track, the soft-breeze elegance of «Blessed Is The Man», the jangly folk of «Pray For Those», the light jazz mood of «Love Not The World». The ballads are among her loveliest songs, whether backed by piano («Holy Union», «Wings Of The Dawn») or acoustic guitar («Dwell On These Things», «Teach Me Thy Ways»). Cover art is suitable for framing. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
