Description
Imaginary Cars is a six-track CD-EP by the American slow core/post-rock band LN fronted by singer/songwriter Gary Murray, independently released on Velvet Blue Music in 2000. The album was produced by Dalton Brand.
Almost right on the heels of their Plum Brook EP, LN have released another EP, Imaginary Cars – this one with six even more well-crafted tracks of blissful melancholy. I call them ‘traks’, because the way they lead into each other, even with tracking breaks, makes for an album cohesiveness that feels like on song with short breaths taken every 3-4 minutes. One song that takes the listener places well-beyond Gary Murray’s serene words – making lyrics almost irrelevant, in the ‘irrelevance’ of words to The Sea and Cake’s Oui. His voice, inflection, and pronunciation part of a greater, holier musical picture where subjectivity breeds personal enlightment and inner exposition. It is not until the middle of track 4, «Tuscany», that one wakes to find something being verbalized; to hear Murray’s comfort offering of, “I’ll still come back to you / my love.” [JD, HM Magazine, issue #88, March/April 2001]
