Daylight

Description

Daylight is a solo album by the American rhythm and blues/soul vocalist Little Anthony of the rhythm and blues/soul/doo-wop vocal group Little Anthony and the Imperials, released on MCA Songbird in August 1980. The album was recorded and mixed by Jimmy Burch at Gold Mine Studio in Nashville, Tennessee; with Brown Bannister and Milton Blackford producing. Includes covers of “I’ll Be Thinking Of You”, a song written by Andraé Crouch and originally released on his 1979-album by the same title, and “Gospel Train”, a song written by Per-Erik Hallin and later recorded by Hallin on his 1982-album Better Late Than Never.

Little Anthony and The Imperials (no, not the gospel group) were one of the truly great acts of the sixties. Songs like «Goin’ Out of My Head» are now pop classics, but Little Anthony Gourdine got saved a year or two ago and has just released his first gospel album. More than Little Anthony’s heart has changed since the sixties. Instead of the soulful crooning of past, what we have here is basically a white adult/contemporary sound. The trademark Little Anthony sound is still there however, probably most fully realized on «Reach Up», Gourdine’s only self-penned tune on the album. (Best cuts: «Walk On Water», «Your Love», «Gospel Train»). [CCM, September 1980]
