Stubborn Love

Description

Stubborn Love is the debut album by the American singer Kathy Troccoli, released on Reunion Records in August 1982, distributed by Word. (It was actually the new label’s first release, Michael W. Smith’s Project being the second.) The album was recorded by Gene Eichelberger at The Bennett House in Franklin, and at Great Circle Sound in Nashville, Tennessee; with Brown Bannister producing.

The debut album from Reunion Records is also the recorded debut of Kathy Troccoli – otherwise known as K.T. – and may be to the Christian airwaves this fall what E.T. was to the movie houses during the summer.

‘Stubborn Love’, (Reunion RRA-0001), is contemporary Christian formula music executed nearly to perfection. This is not to say that Troccoli lacks sincerity in any way – she doesn’t – but though this LP is near the top of its class in quality, it breaks no new ground. This is another polished Brown Bannister production and in that sense sounds like plenty of other albums, but it is set apart from the rest by Troccoli’s husky alto vocalizations and the discernable trace of her New York accent.

The foundation for any album is the songs, and ‘Stubborn Love’ features material from some of the best writers around, among them Gary Chapman (and his wife, Amy), Michael Smith, Gary & Rosemary Dunham and Brown Bannister. Tunes of particular note include K.T.’s christianized rendering of Ashford & Simpson’s «You’re All I Need to Get By», «Once in a Lifetime» by Gary & Rosemary Dunham and Michael Smith, and the title track.
