Empty Canvas

Description

Empty Canvas is an instrumental album by the American singer and songwriter John Michael Talbot, released on Meadowlark Records ‎in 1986, manufactured, marketed and distributed by Sparrow Records. The album was part of the Meadowlark Series, a series of contemplative instrumental albums launched by Sparrow Records in late 1985, sub-titled “Music without words for thoughts without limits” and later ammended to “Music for your personal retreat“. The album was produced by John Michael Talbot and Phil Perkins. Orchestrated by Perkins.

John Michael Talbot’s name has come to represent a very high standard in worship music, and listeners who eagerly await each release, whether vocal or instrumental, will not be disappointed in ‘Empty Canvas’. While three solo compositions highlight Talbot’s underappreciated talent on guitar, he is joined by a superb ensemble on the rest of the tracks. Phil Perkins’ arrangements give the ensemble their due while never straying far from spotlighting Talbot. Indeed, the listener is made to feel as if he or she were the solo guest at an intimate worship gathering with these musicians and their Creator. A delight in every respect, from performance to recording to packaging. [Bruce A. Brown, CCM, February 1987]
