CLOSER THAN EVER – FOUND FREE – Greentree R 3530 (Benson)

After seven years of performing Found Free is putting its talents on record. Easy sounds of rock, jazz and blues are captured in excellent style by this seven member group. Some of the most notable cuts include «I Won’t Turn Back», «Stone Heart» and «If You Know». [Record World, February 3, 1979 (Record World Gospel Album Picks)]

The third LP from this highly glossed orchestrated pop/MOR male/female outfit has a few interesting moments. If you happen to be putting together a Christian disco compilation, you’ll definitely want to include «Stone Heart», a classy polished dance-floor thumper. «Touched By Love» and «If You Know» are also moderately fun attempts at ‘70s funk, even if it is the toned-down CCM variety. «Still Up Walkin» has a breezy melodic soft rock groove with a couple decent wah-wah guitar-solos. One instance of brassy gospel swing («Starlight Praise») and several massively mellow ballads. Some of the members carried on into the group Bash ‘N The Code. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
