Description
Feels Good to Be Forgiven is the solo debut album by the American singer, songwriter, and keyboardist Eddie DeGarmo of DeGarmo & Key Band, released on ForeFront Records in 1988. The album was recorded at Crosstown Recorders with Ron W. Griffin producing.
It seems that members of large rock outfits love to get solo record deals so that they can go into the studio and make their “personal” musical statements. These solo affairs often tend to be self-indulgent, pompous and somewhat laborious if not difficult to listen to.
Eddie DeGarmo has offered us one of the freshest and most energetic records to hit the market in a long, long time. Going back and picking through the musical memories of his youth, DeGarmo pulls out the Hammond B-3 organ and enlists the help of the Memphis horns to aid his return to the R&B heritage of his hometown Memphis, Tennessee.
Every song in the album was written entirely by DeGarmo save one cut that was written with his long time partner, Dana Key. Lyrically, the songs are very different from D&K – they are just plain celebratory. Between the lyrics and Eddie’s voice, it seems impossible to listen to this record and not have one’s spirit lifted.
One great surprise alluded to earlier is DeGarmo’s voice. Raspy and rough, it is perfectly suited to this material. Even though DeGarmo’s voice is not usually suited to D&K material, DeGarmo has found one of his gifts that has been under utilized. [Devlin Donaldson, CCM, December 1988]
