Can You Hear Us? is the major label debut album and the third effort overall by the American contemporary worship combo David Crowder Band, released on sixstepsrecords in February 2002, manufactured by Sparrow Label Group, distributed in the US by Chordant Distribution Group. The album was recorded by Shane D. Wilson at The Boyd’s Barn in Waco, Texas; with Brent Milligan producing. Overdubs recorded by Brent Milligan at Soundwerks in Nashville, Tennessee. Mixed by Shane D. Wilson at Charlie Peacock Productions (tracks 1 to 3, 6, 9, 10, 11.2), by Jacquire King at Wyndchase Studio (tracks 4, 5, 8), and by Russ Fowler assisted Steve Short at The Castle Recording Studios (tracks 7 and 11.1).

Featuring David Crowder on lead and backing vocals as well as acoustic and electric guitars, Jack Parker on keyboards and electric guitar, Jason Solley on electric guitar, Mike Dodson on bass, and Jeremy Bush on drums. Violin, noises, and turntables by Mike Hogan. Additional backing vocals provided by Robbie Seay and Sarah Macintosh.

Mmmm, nice. Good stuff this one. If you’re into Delirious?, Steve, Sonicflood, etc, then you’ll like this. There’s a blend of guitar driven rock tracks with other more reflective “ballads”. David Crowder and band hail from Texas, but two tracks may already be familiar to British audiences. Matt Redman’s «Undignified» and Sinnead O’Connor’s «Thank You For Hearing Me» which Crowder “Christianises” well by ending with a snatch from the hymn «My Jesus I love you I know thou art mine». There are some great tracks here – notably «God Of Creation», which has a catchy chorus. There’s also good use of a variety of instrumentation and a couple of golden moments – one where the drums suddenly stop and you’re left with voice and a single picked electric guitar. Gutsy, edgy praise music from a talented musicianary, this deserves wide exposure. [Jonathan Evans, Cross Rhythms, March 2002]
