Through a Child’s Eyes

Description

Through a Child’s Eyes is the solo debut album by the American singer and songwriter Annie Herring of 2nd Chapter of Acts fame, released on Sparrow Records in May 1976. (It was the first release by the new Sparrow label founded by Billy Ray Hearn in January 1976; with catalog number SPR-1001. One of the firm’s first advertising slogans was, “Quality artists who live what they sing.”) The album was recorded and produced by Annie’s husband Buck Herring at Sunwest Studios in Hollywood and at Frog Shoes in Burbank, California. Arranged by Michael Omartian.

The album was included among Harmony Magazine‘s Best Albums of 1976, a list of ten albums featured in issue No. 11. (“Harmony picks Jesus Music’s best of ’76” – “Regardless of music style, “the best” were picked on the basis of their ability to communicate beyond the four walls of the church.”)

The album track “Some Days” was as well featured on Sparrow Spotlight Sampler, a multi-artist compilation released by Sparrow Records in 1978.

Annie’s solo excursion from 2nd Chapter of Acts doesn’t sound a whole lot different from the orchestrated pop of their fine Mansion Builder LP a fact that shouldn’t be surprising since Annie writes most of their stuff anyway. Michael Omartian’s on keyboards all over here, along with Mike Deasy on acoustic guitar, Art Munson on electric guitar, Leland Sklar on bass and David Kemper on drums. A couple cover variations the original is an embossed photo of Annie on a swing. Sparrow’s debut release. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
