History Makers

Description

History Makers, sub-titled 15 Songs that Redefined Gospel Music in the 1970s, is a compilation album by the American contemporary gospel singer and songwriter Andraé Crouch, released on Sparrow Records in 2003, distributed in the US by Chordant Distribution Group. Featuring 15 songs recorded between 1969 and 1981.

Andraé Crouch made music that both helped establish a contemporary gospel style and form a foundation for contemporary Christian pop. This collection features his finest songs from the years with his group The Disciples, and some of his early solo recordings as well, remastered with 24-bit technology for superior sound.

It’s amazing to think that a whole generation of Christian music fans have grown up unaware of the legend that was Andrae Crouch, and this excellent series, which has been digitally remastered, gives everyone an opportunity to discover some of the pioneers of the genre. It’s impossible to overestimate the importance Crouch and his vocal aggregation The Disciples were to have on the direction of Christian music with their fusion of R&B rhythms to the trad gospel sound. Though some of these tracks from Light Records have dated a bit there are still plenty of winning Crouch compositions here soulfully sung by Danniebelle Hall, Bili Thedford, Sandra Crouch and all those other one time Disciples. Here we have 15 essential soul/gospel classics such as «I Don’t Know Why Jesus Loves Me», «Jesus Is The Answer», «Soon And Very Soon» and «Through It All». If you have any interest at all in the history of CCM, this album is an absolute must. [Steve Best, Cross Rhythms, November 2003]
