Description
“Live” at Carnegie Hall is the first live album, and the fourth album overall, by the American gospel group Andraé Crouch & The Disciples, recorded in October 1972 and released on Light Records in 1973.
This album marked a turning point in Andrae Crouch’s career as previous efforts had not sold well. Recorded in October 1972 the album captured the passion and the fervor of their live “Holy Spirit powered” performances which catapulted them into one of the top drawing Jesus Music acts of the era. Back cover states “this album is not a slick or watered-down album. It is rough and honest”. One of the first live Jesus Music concerts ever to be recorded, he was backed up by the group Sonlight. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
Carnegie Hall was more indicative of what Andrae Crouch & the Disciples were, live, at that time. And his previous records were nothing like this one. You know, Keep On Singin’ was kind of a very white-bread, up-with-people kind of record. And on Soulfully, he just hired a bunch of Motown arrangers and it was like an Andrae version of a Motown record – not really indicative of his music. But this was really him. And it was the first time that sound had been released. And things kind of broke for us at that point. – Bill Maxwell
