When You’re a Rebel

When You’re a Rebel is the sophomore album by the American alternative rock band Altar Boys, released on the short-lived Maranatha! Music related imprint Broken Records in 1985, distributed by Word. The album was recorded by Derri Daugherty of The Choir at Whitefield Studios in Santa Ana and at Rocshire Studios in Anaheim, California; with B.B. Stone producing. Mixed by Leroy Cahuenga (a.k.a. Mark Heard) at Fingerprint Recorders in Los Angeles, California. All songs written by band member Mike Stand except track A5 co-written with band member Ric Alba who also wrote track B5. According to the June/July 1986 issue of CCM Magazine, the album sold 20,000 copies in its first two months.

The title track was also included on the multi-artist 7-inch vinyl EP Broken Samples, released on Broken Records in 1985.

Altar Boys features Mike Stand (a.k.a. Mike Annis) on guitar and lead vocals, Ric Alba on bass and backing vocals, and Jeff Crandall on drums and percussion. Additional guitar provided by Steve Pannier on tracks A1, B2, B4, and B5.
