Description
A Real Give-Away is a 7-inch split promo single by the British singers and songwriters Bryn Haworth and Albert Lee, released on A&M Records in 1979 (catalogue number ALBH 1). The single features a medley on separate sides of selected songs from both artists at the time new albums, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve. The medley on Side A includes segments from Lee’s album Hiding (Country Boy / Setting Me Up / Billy Tyler / On A Real Good Night / Country Boy (Reprise)), while the medley on the flip-side includes segments from Haworth’s album Keep the Ball Rolling (City Boy / First Time / Luxury Liner / Keep The Ball Rolling).
Bryn Haworth’s album Keep the Ball Rolling was produced and engineered by Jon Astley and Doug Bennett at Olympic Studios in London, England. Brass arrangements by Lyle Harper and string arrangements by Ted Astley. Featuring Bryn Haworth on lead vocals and guitars backed by what would be considered the Eric Clapton Band at that time – Chris Stainton on piano and organ and a rhythm section consisting of Dave Markee and Henry Spinetti on bass and drums respectively. Background vocals provided by Cliff Richard and his background vocal trio consisting of John Perry, Tony Rivers and Stu Calver.
The list of Bryn Haworth’s former collaborators is long and illustrious, including Little Feat’s drummer, Richie Hayward, and Jackie Lomax in America and the organisation of bands with Pete Wingfield, Rosko Gee, Alan Spenner, Dave Mattacks and Bruce Rowland here in Britain … and his debut album for A&M last year “The Grand Arrival” received enthusiastic acclaim from those who value not only talent, but expertise in the conception and execution of music. Bryn Haworth’s second album, “Keep The Ball Rolling,” confirms his reputation among both his peers and his growing number of admirers as one of the finest “musicians’ musicians” and above all, his almost unequalled mastery of bottleneck guitar.
