Description
Out of Egypt is the sophomore and final album by the American synth-pop band Painted Orange, released on Salt Incorporated Music in 1996. The album was produced by Otto M (a.k.a. Mark McCurdy) and the band.
A return for the trio that is Painted Orange. The lyrics do reveal despair rescued by turning to Christ which is good however I do find the lyrics lacking that extra punch. Musically the band is hard to nail down. I’ve said alternative rock yet it contains a strong influence of techno/dance. Perhaps the closest resemblance would be Depeche Mode but with a brighter feel to it. It essentially sounds like their previous offering (on Star Song), so if you liked that one then this will appeal to you. But the band have brought in up to date touches to keep it sounding fresh and inventive. Painted Orange know their art and execute it brilliantly (even my fiancĂ©e liked it so it must be good!). If you are looking for something different then check this out. [Mark Sherwood, Cross Rhythms, December 1996]
