DC Talk

Description

The self-titled debut album by the American pop/hip-hop trio dc Talk (featuring Toby McKeehan, Michael Tait, and Kevin Max Smith) was released on ForeFront Records in 1989, distributed by The Benson Company. The album was produced by Ron W. Griffin and band member Toby McKeehan.

Our nation’s capital and its governmental liasons generally concentrate on such weighty matters as Iran-Contra hearings, presidential papparazzi and economical strategies, yet it may soon have to give priority billing to a full-effect trend that’s sweeping the country.

In other words, what does it mean to do the “cabbage patch” and how will this affect the politics of dancing?

DC Talk, ForeFront Records premiere rap act, and their self-titled debut doesn’t necessarily answer the above questions, yet they offer enough good-time gospel, bust-it (just don’t fillibust-it) prose to cause the average wallflower to join a peace posse in search of the ultimate groove.

Their unique style combines Roxy Music gone hip-hop with background choruses straight from a bowl game halftime show. With a combination like that, DC Talk has “Gah Ta Be” good for your constitution. [Kevin Allison, CCM, May 1989]
