Rock: Brainstorm Rock Collection

Description

Rock: Brainstorm Rock Collection is a multi-artist rock compilation released on Brainstorm Artists International in 1994, distributed by Diamante Music Group. Rock was one of four Brainstorm samplers released. The others were entitled Rap, Reflections, and Raw, respectively.

Brainstorm Artists, recently established as an artist owned and operated cooperative, celebrates a new era by presenting an anthology of songs and miscellanea by all of the artists that have made such an important contribution to the faith and lives of so many.

ROCK: Smash hit singles and many hard to find favorites that have spearheaded modern Christian music by The 77’s, Deliverance, Undercover, Adam Again, Lost Dogs, Ojo Taylor, Nobody Special, Daniel Amos, 441, and Level Head. [Note from the album insert]

Though other labels and other imprints have had their fair share of important artists in modern Christian music – pound for pound, Brainstorm has probably developed the most consistently fabulous and important library. And while releasing a four-album series may simply be an exercise in flaunting that library, who can blame them?

Look at the ‘Rock’ collection: Undercover; 77s; Adam Again («Eyes Wide Open» and «In A New World Of Time», both from out of print albums); Daniel Amos. The collection is rounded out by tracks from Lost Dogs, Riki Michele, 441, Nobody Special and a new song from Deliverance (but the band has done better).

Reflections‘ gives many of these bands a chance to show their darker, moodier sides – think of it as “adult alternative with an attitude.” This volume also has the most collectibles: Highlights include Ojo Taylor’s solo album (the rich and haunting «Love In Wonder» and «Box Of Treasures»), Riki Michele’s first solo album (with «Bride’s Song ‘84»), Undercover from their landmark ‘Branded‘ («Cry Myself To Sleep» and «Come Away With Me», two of the finest songs the band has ever produced), Adam Again’s out-of-print «10th Song» and the never-released new track, «Sleepwalk», Daniel Amos with an acoustic version of «Buffalo Fields» (previously only a radio single), and the Christmas song «O Come O Come Emanuel» with Ojo Taylor, Gene Eugene, Riki Michele and Marcus Carman. Plus, there’s 77s (but how could they have left out «Kites Without Strings»?), Lost Dogs, Mercy River, 441 and Level Heads.

And while the inevitable flaw of each collection is that there just isn’t enough of this stuff – hopefully, Brainstorm’s new deal with Diamante will include reissues of the whole albums – there is much in these volumes for newcomers as well as old friends.
