Mark Heard

Description

The self-titled solo debut album by the American singer and songwriter Mark Heard (December 16, 1951 – August 16, 1992) was released on Airborn Records in 1975. The album was recorded June 1975 by Cecil Jones at Lemco Studios in Lexington, Kentucky. The album was re-issued by AB Records in 1978, in co-operation with Solid Rock Records, distributed by Creative Sound. The re-issue features new cover artwork and was re-titled On Turning to Dust.

Jeffrey Ennis VanSant did the original cover artwork. Mark Heard actually had a huge collection of butterflies and gave VanSant a butterfly in a cigar box mounted with a pin on a piece of Styrofoam. VanSant started the design process on Mark Heard’s request and did the entire cover as a class project in graphic design.

A re-titled pressing of his custom debut that was given greater distribution by Creative Sound. Released on the same label as Larry Norman’s Streams Of White Light Into Darkened Corners. Cover has a photo of Mark sitting in a rocking chair. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
