Cradle of Love

Description

Cradle of Love is the sophomore solo album by the American singer and songwriter Terry Talbot of Mason Proffit and the Talbot Brothers fame, released on Sparrow Records in 1977, distributed by Word. The album was produced and recorded by Al Perkins at Studio 55 and Capitol Studio B in Los Angeles and at Location Recording Service in Burbank, California. Mixed at Studio 55 and Capitol Studio B. Strings arranged by David Diggs. All songs written by Terry Talbot except the title track co-written with brother John Michael Talbot and “Lord, How Did You Feel?” written by Mark McCord.

Featuring Terry Talbot on lead vocals, acoustic guitar, and harmonica, backed by a session band consisting of Jim Hobson on keyboards, both Solid Rock sideman Jon Linn and producer Al Perkins on electric guitars (with the latter also providing pedal steel guitar), Jim Fielder on bass, Jim Gordon on drums, and Joe Lala on percussion, with David Lindley sitting on violin. Backing vocals provided by Talbot along with Herb Pedersen and Terry Oelrich.

Cradle of Love continues in the relaxed country style of No Longer Alone on cuts like «Mighty Wind», «Takin’ Me Higher», «Lord How Did It Feel?» and «Golden Gate Sunset», leaving mild impressions of rural folks like The Eagles, Bob Seger and Neil Young. Effective use of violin on «Satisfied With Blindness» and the solem end-times ballad «A Tale Of The Times». Other ballads like «Carry Me Away» and «The Potters Clay» are mellowed with light string orchestration from David Diggs. Catchy steel guitar work on the lively Latin-flavored «Let It Play». Includes assistance from Al Perkins and Jon Linn among others. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
