Description
Out in the Open is the third album by the American folk/country rock band Dogwood (Ron Elder and Steve Chapman), released on Lamb & Lion Records in January 1978, distributed by Word. The album was recorded and mixed by Brown Bannister at Gold Mine Studio East in Brentwood, Tennessee; with Chris Christian producing.
Back to a duo, Dogwood plugs in the electric, adds piano, and moves away from country folk toward friendly pop-edged middle-of-the-road country rock. Mostly original titles, along with «Great Great Joy» and Terry Talbot’s «Taking Me Higher». Songs like «You Move Me», «You’ll Be There» and «Ebenezer» all stand up well, working in nice embellishments of electric guitar. «The Singer» was adapted from Calvin Miller’s book of the same title. Backup vocalists include Honeytree, Fireworks, Annie Chapman and Chris Christian. All three of the group’s Lamb & Lion albums were produced by Chris Christian. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
