Description
Evening All Day is the sole album by the American folk group The Manifest Destiny, independently released on RCR in 1969. The album was recorded at Eastern Mennonite College 04/69 by Rittenhouse Recording Service.
Co-ed Mennonite college folksters doing above-par mix of ‘60s tunes and spiritual songs. A rather simple and straight forward acoustic format, yet with a surprising good measure of home-made charm, including adorable laid-back male/female harmonies. The song choices are certainly not run-of-the-mill, with covers of The Toys («A Lover’s Concerto»), The Mamas & The Papas («12:30»), The Byrds («Here Without You»), Kenny Rogers & The First Edition («But You Know I Love You») and the instrumental «Love Is Blue» (to which harpsichord and cello are added). The religious angle comes via covers of New Folk’s «Sing Alleluia» and «Road To Freedom». A few nice basic acoustic guitar solos here and there. The core of the group went on to form the much respected Rebirth. Virginia custom label. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
