Description

City on a Hill: The Gathering is a multi-artist project released on Essential Records in 2003, manufactured and distributed by Provident Music Group. The album was produced by Steve Hindalong of The Choir and Marc Byrd, with Derri Daugherty co-producing.

The album is the final release in a four part series entitled City on a Hill started with City on a Hill: Songs of Worship and Praise released in 2000. City on a Hill: Sing Alleluia and City on a Hill: It’s Christmas Time followed in 2002.

Note: Also released as an enhanced CD (HDCD) by Essential Records (83061-0701-2). The enhanced content includes the video for “Flood” from Jars of Clay and a short video of the lounge version of “Flood” with John Jonethis, as well as home videos and outtakes from the recording of Much Afraid, interviews with the band about particular tracks, photos from the band’s first few years and sample audio files of other Essential Records releases. “The Chair” was originally featured on The Long Kiss Goodnight soundtrack. The version of “Frail” that appears here is the instrumental version that was originally recorded for Jars of Clay’s 1994 demo ‘Frail’ (lyrics were not added until the band re-recorded it for Much Afraid in 1997).

The three City on a Hill albums Songs of Worship and Praise, Sing Alleluia, and The Gathering were re-issued as a 3CD box set in 2004 by Essential Records.
