The Definitive Collection is a compilation album by the American rock band Mylon LeFevre & Broken Heart, released on Word Entertainment in May 2007, a Warner/Curb Company. The compilation is a part of Word Record’s Definitive Collection Series featuring “the 10 quintessential songs that defined the artist’s career, complete with a career recap.”
A pioneering Christian rocker, Mylon LeFevre was one of the first artists to fuse the gospel message with rock music. Along the way, he had tremendous impact on both secular and Christian music lovers with his compelling songs and passionate performances.
Mylon was born into one of gospel music’s most prominent families – The LeFevres. He began his career performing with his folks, but later left the family group to join the Army. When he was only 17, Elvis Presley recorded “Without Him,” the first song Mylon had written. Soon after, Mylon had cuts on 126 albums and was one of Christian music’s hottest young songwriters. His talents were discovered by secular artists and Mylon has recorded or toured with numerous acts, including Charlie Daniels, Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, and the Atlanta Rhythm Section.
Money and fame strained his relationship with his family and tested his faith. He went through a time of rebellion and suffered through drug addiction. But just like the prodigal son in the Bible, Mylon found his way home. In 1980, he recommitted his life to Jesus. He became a janitor at his home church in Atlanta, but soon began playing with friends from his Bible study and formed Mylon & Broken Heart. The group won the Grammy Award in 1988 for Best Gospel Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group for the landmark album “Crack the Sky.”
Over the course of his career, Mylon has sold millions of records, won Dove awards and preached the gospel everywhere from motorcycle rallies to churches to NFL chapel services to NASCAR races. He continues to be one of the most energetic champions of the gospel ever to grace the stage or pulpit. [Album liner notes printed on the CD insert]
