Anchor Hymns – No Home But You

Description

No Home But You is a five-track live EP by the multi-artist praise & worship project Anchor Hymns, released on Integrity Music in March 2024. The EP was recorded live in Nashville featuring over a dozen artists, including Paul Baloche, Antoine Bradford, Citizens, Ashley Cleveland, Dwan Hill, Sarah Kroger, Leslie Jordan, Taylor Leonhardt, Sandra McCracken (the later three also part of Paper Horses), Brent Milligan, Jasmine Mullen, Andrew Osenga, Tim Timmons, Garrett Tyler, Ricky Vazquez, and Dee Wilson.

Anchor Hymns is a multigenerational collective of artists including such names as Tim Timmons, Taylor Leonhardt, Sandra McCracken, Leslie Jordan, Paul Baloche and Antoine Bradford just to name a few. Their latest EP, No Home But You was embarked upon by the collective with a specific purpose: to create songs resonating with those navigating the complexities of loss and longing, acknowledging the fractures in families, the strains of political discord, and the ensuing sense of being unmoored.

The project was recorded in a Nashville Mansion and is an unfiltered, raw collection of rock and roll hymns delivered by a bunch of friends celebrating the home and peace we all need and can share in Jesus. These songs are meant as an invitation to anyone feeling lost or adrift needing a safe and warm place to belong.

«Where Else Can I Go» the album kicks off with a powerful Rhodes organ and a multitude of voices singing in harmony proclaiming John 6:51-59 as Jesus is the living bread coming down from heaven for us. Overflowing with groovy bass lines, punchy Rhodes piano and southern slide guitar licks, this track was my favorite on the EP. The collective also creatively works in a verse of «I Have Decided To Follow Jesus» at the end of the track which fits absolutely perfectly.

The title track follows and is a bit lighter in energy as Leslie Jordan shines with with her southern alto drawl singing confidently about how Jesus is all we ever need and that we always have a home with Him. The acoustic guitars and light brushes on the snare drum give this song warmth and depth.

«Oh Freedom» wraps up the little EP as worship legend, Paul Baloche joins Leslie Jordan and Sarah Kroger in this simple yet peppy Americana chorus that will have you tapping your feet and singing along in no time.

I really appreciated the intergenerational and multi-racial make up of artists on these five tracks. The songs were simple enough for most worship teams to emulate and different enough in style, structure and arrangement to make every track stand out in some special way. Well done Anchor Hymns.
