Succulent Space Food for Teething Vampires is the sophomore album by the American hardcore punk band Blaster The Rocketboy (Blaster the Rocket Boy, later known as Blaster the Rocket Man), released on Boot To Head Records in 1997. The album was recorded at Room 12 Studios in Jonesboro, Illinois; with Josh Plemon of S.S. Bountyhunter fame and the band producing.

Blaster The Rocketboy features Otto (Otto Jack), Johnny, Chrissy (Chris Dickens), and Mikey (Michael Schauss).

They refer to their brand of music as surfpopcowdeathforgirls music or GAG (Girls Are Gross) rock. I would refer to it as Christian underground punk, done right. With multitudes of screaming, guitar hacking bands in the underground hardcore/punk scene that seem to feed off hate. It’s wonderful to find a fun punk band that can actually play punk good while creating an enjoyable atmosphere. What makes Blaster even more interesting is their bizarre obsession with the sci fi/horror genre. With songs like «American Werewolf», «I’m Only Humanoid (Lost In Space)» and «Deploy All Monsters» it’s easy to imagine that lead singer/songwriter Otto Jack was that kid in English class who spent a little too much time in his own outer space. Stupid and cheesy much of their lyrics may be, but it is difficult not to sing along as they tell tales about Darth Vadar, Godzilla and an army of other creatures and super heroes. The Gospel is here however. The cover reveals a detailed explanation of the Gospel, along with a word of encouragement to “observe ‘secular’ media with discernment and a prayerful attitude…” Within their songs, Blaster try to draw parallels between light sabres and the Word of God, being a vampire and accepting Jesus and even being a werewolf and taking communion. Some of these parallels actually work. Blaster pack about 16 songs onto this album and then adds a bonus live show that’s over 28 minutes long, about the last eight minutes of which is a passionate, thoughtful sharing of the Gospel. ‘Succulent Space Food For Teething Vampires’ is not for the faint of heart. It is an extremely good punk album from a band that openly tell about their Saviour. They just have a bizarre way of doing it. [Rod Lobaugh, Cross Rhythms, June 1997]
