Slick Shoes – Burn Out

Description

Burn Out is the sophomore full-length album by the American punk rock band Slick Shoes, released on Tooth & Nail Records in 1998. The album was recorded at Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood, California; with the band producing. Mixed at A&M Studios in Hollywood. All songs written by the band, except track 11 written by 7 Seconds.

Handle with care! From beginning to end, this disc is an eruption of fast-paced drums amidst an onslaught of power chords, forming a formidable power house of rhythms and pop-laden grooves, Slick Shoes demonstrate themselves to be a find band. Lyrically, they intelligently explore a welcome variety of ideas and emotions, the desire to fight against conformity («The Last Round»), inner struggles («Learn To Unlearn»), the celebration of love («For Better, For Worse») and tackling life’s oddities («When Does It End?»). Whilst Ryan’s delivery may take some time to get used to, the overall sound of the band is nothing short of amazing. [Alex Figgis, Cross Rhythms, February 1999]
