Description
The Greengrass Session, sub-titled Six Hymns from The Old World and The New, is a Limited Edition seven-track EP by the British worship duo Keith & Kristyn Getty, independently released on Getty Music in November 2014. The EP was produced by Fionán de Barra.
In Ireland, there is the long-standing tradition of the Session, an informal gathering of musicians making music together wherever they happen to be. It’s not so much a performance but rather a shared experience where everyone plays or sings along.
As our lives are spent more and more on two continents, we have loved sharing the traditions of our native land and discovering those of our adopted home. The blending of old and new world sounds, of music handed down and music recreated in new spaces, of traditional Irish flavor and American bluegrass color has inspired our song-writing, arranging and performing. It has helped support and define our goal of writing new congregational songs for the local church while continuing to enjoy the older ones passed onto us – hymns old and new that ultimately lead us from what is passing away to a deeper understanding of the gospel that awakens us to new life in Christ.
We have regular sessions in our home – a GreenGrass session, so named for the combination of Irish and bluegrass songs and musicians that come ’round. This recording attempts to capture some of what we enjoy in those get-togethers, and we hope you feel invited to share here in the experience!
