Description
Interpretations, sub-titled Orchestral Sounds of Praise and Worship, is an instrumental album by the UK born, South African based multi-instrumentalist Keith Hutchinson, released on Word Entertainment in 2000. The album was produced, arranged, and performed by Keith Hutchinson.
The title of this somewhat run-of-the-mill CD is rather clever – it is certainly ‘Orchestral Sounds’, but not played by an orchestra. Before it even gets to the CD player, the clues are in the credits. The “arranger and producer” is Keith Hutchinson – there are no other performer credits – and, apart from the usual studio and engineer credits the only other information given is about the sources of the samples used. This is a CD of music composed by other people put together by Keith Hutchinson from digital samples played by other people. And it shows in the music once you start listening. I found it all rather soulless, although I had to admire the sheer technological wizardry of Mr Hutchinson – things have come a long way since Chris Rolinson’s ‘Electric Praise‘ albums! There are versions of 10 standard songs from «My Jesus, My Saviour» to the now ubiquitous «Awesome God», with one of Hutchinson’s own compositions, «You Are My Life», at the end. The arrangements are rather too slick and soulless to be worshipful, but if you haven’t already got enough Christian muzak in your collection, this might be useful to play as background music while people arrive for your weekly housegroup meeting. Hi message to Ian. A moment of correction and reflection. I would like to point out that there were no loops or fixed sample phrases used, every single note was played by me, there were no notes played by other people as you state. So, I am the only one who responsible for this production. I am quite amazed how well you know how I work and the limitations placed by a record company upon one such as myself. It is not for your ears really but your apparent ignorance of the music business leads me to inform you that the budget was small and was certainly not enough for a “real” orchestra. There was also to my utter amazement no budget for proper promotion which from my perspective was very sad after so much effort. I have since had many requests for copies even to this day. If the Lord leads me to remix or even re-record with a “real” orchestra then I shall do so, regardless of your rather “Haytful” comments. All the best. Cheers.
