Description
A Friend Like You is an album by the American jazz singer Dave Boyer, released on Word Records in 1980. The album was produced by Dony McGuire.
Christian Music’s Frank Sinatra is back (oh, how he must hate that constant comparison), and he’s sounding stronger than ever. In what may at first seem an unlikely pairing, Dony McGuire as producer has brought new depth and brilliance to Boyer’s work in addition to new songs. (Six of the LP’s 10 tunes were co-written by Reba Rambo and McGuire.)
Boyer sounds best with a big band sound, and there’s plenty of it here, but McGuire’s arrangements of the rhythm tracks have added power and punch to the sound. Boyer is the epitome of the MOR sound, but contemporary types will probably enjoy «So Satisfied», a bouncy Rambo/McGuire tune. Sing on, Dave! [CCM, May 1980]
