Description
Cave of the Heart is a solo album by the American singer and songwriter John Michael Talbot of Mason Proffit fame, released on Troubadour For The Lord in 1999. The album was recorded by Brent King assisted by Rob Burrell at Dark Horse Recording in Franklin, Tennessee; and at Talbot’s monestic community Little Portion Hermitage in Eureka Springs, Arkansas; with Phil Perkins and John Michael Talbot producing. Mixed by Brent King at Dark Horse Recording.
For more than 20 years, John Michael Talbot has followed his calling to live as a monk and record music with strongly spiritual and mystic content. Using a meditative acoustic style, years before it became popular, this new album is a feast of inspiring songs and mellow musical textures. Enlisting pals like Michael Card and Phil Keaggy to add their musical talents to the project makes this an even more tantalizing prospect. The almost chant-like choral vocals on songs like «Kyrie» and «Gloria Motet» are hauntingly beautiful whilst the rhythm and vocals captured on «Glory To God» is pure, moving, worship. The quieter «Devotion» has a Celtic lilt whilst the closing gentle musical exhortation «Walk And Follow Jesus» seems a fitting end to a beautiful album. [Mike Rimmer, Cross Rhythms, June 2000]
