Learning to Lose

Description

Learning to Lose is the debut album by the American pop/rock band The Turning, released on RKT in 2006, an imprint of Rocketown Records, manufactured and distributed in the US by Provident-Integrity Distribution and as well by Sony BMG Music Entertainment. The album was produced by Nathan Dantzler with Jason Burkum co-producing tracks 5 and 6.

Signed to Rocketown’s new sister label RKT which is specialising in launching new rock acts, The Turning have had their fair share of hype in recent months. Listening to this debut album, they seem to have hit the road running with an assured debut album that mixes radio friendly rock with passionate vocals and more than enough melody to satisfy the ears. I am a sucker for vocalist Jacob McGinnis’s voice which blends vulnerability and power in equal measure. There are plenty of tracks here that hit the mark including the catchy «Out Of My Hands» and the riffy electric «Through All The Earth» and the bass-driven «Numb». The Turning are right where it’s at when it comes to American Christian music at the moment where everybody including pop acts like Casting Crowns are plugging in their electric guitars and turning up the volume. The problem will be whether the band can do enough to stand out in the crowd. [Mike Rimmer, Cross Rhythms, July 2006]
